Our “QUICKIE”
tour for the independent traveler:
What a wonderful
way to discover Paris! Each day is yours to do
as you wish. Go with Patty as she visits
favorite haunts and “must see” places. Break
away whenever you want and “do your own thing”.
You will have museum and metro passes. Pick and
choose. Patty is always there to help. Here’s
some typical days with what we plan to
accomplish in bold and underlined
plus some extra surprises. Other options given
to you before the tour and in Paris. Here’s our
basic plan: |
|
MAY 11
|
Leave for
Paris from the States.
|
|
MAY 12 |
Arrive in
Paris - transfer to hotel. Gather for an
“intro” to plans for our visit, then easy
meal nearby to further discuss ideas.
Perhaps a short walk to introduce our area
and help with the jet lag. During the week,
Patty will suggest a plan for the day and
perhaps an intriguing or charming restaurant
for dinner. Join her for the day, part of it
or just join her and others for dinner or
make your own discoveries. |
|
MAY 13 |
First this morning, a Metro lesson using
your 5 day METRO PASS. Then using our
MUSEUM PASS, we’ll have a full day on
the Ile de la Cité beginning
at Hotel de Ville, on to
flower market, then Notre Dame
Cathedral, the Deportation
Museum, then displays of historical
Paris at underground Roman ruins.
Visit Sainte-Chapelle with
glowing blue stained glass windows (Vivaldi
concert one evening? - we’ll check the
concert schedule), notorious
Conciergerie and ending with boat
trip on the Seine. Now what shall we do?
Energy left? Continue to the Left Bank
and famous Wm. Shakespheare bookstore
with dinner in Greek restaurant. What a day!
All week Patty will find fun, French and
interesting restaurants for you to try for
dinner. (Remember, you can join the group,
go off on your own and pick and choose your
day’s delights). |
|
MAY 14 |
Start with a visit to the nearby fun local
market filled with bright
vegetables, flowers, cheese, meats -
everything! Then off to an often missed
historical site, the Palais Royale,
then on to the Louvre, filled
with treasures. Spend an hour or entire day.
Meet Patty later to see some other nearby
sights including visit to famous W.H.
Smith Bookstore filled with large
collection of books in English. Walk to
Opera, the Madeleine, Place Vendome, etc. Go
on your own to visit fabulous shops, another
museum or two or just walk enjoying the
sights. |
|
MAY 15 |
Time to see
the impressionists to Musee
d'Orsay filled with the world’s largest
collection of art from 1848 to 1904! Well
displayed, take all the time you want in
very pleasant setting. Afternoon might be a
good time to ride “hop on, hop off”
sightseeing bus for a upper level
look at the city ….sit on top for great
pictures! |
|
MAY 16 |
Patty has a favorite
Saturday flea market
filled with treasures and a great haunt of
the Parisians. Close by is
Montparnasse with one of the best
and highest views of Paris – worth a visit.
Free time then meet for pre-dinner
get-together. |
|
MAY 17 |
The market is open
today, Sunday, so a quick stop before we
catch the train to Versailles,
a palace that has everything. Guided
tour through most famous rooms
including brilliant Hall of Mirrors. Visit
extraordinary gardens. Stay on or go back
with group for good look at the Eiffel
Tower. Perhaps this is the time
to go to the top. Evening always gives a
chance to see the “City of Light” at night.
Patty will reserve tables at our favorite,
small restaurant – an experience. |
|
MAY 18 |
Today, a
favorite walk...first to nearby Place
des Vosge,
oldest and very pretty square in Paris (Victor
Hugo’s home). See children &
nannies, have an exquisite cup of hot
chocolate and head toward Forum
des Halles.
Interesting shops and buildings including a
visit to fascinating Musee
Carnavalet (city of Paris
museum), Picasso Museum is nearby. On to
George Pompidou
Centre with a great place for a
crepe lunch nearby. Visit Saint-Eustache
Church, built to rival Notre
Dame ( memories of Liszt, Berlioz) then on
to unique kitchen shop. Continue exploring. |
|
MAY 19 |
A “totally free” day or
if you like going with Patty, follow her as
she investigates more wonderful places.
Still many museums to visit, shopping to do,
Invalides, Bois de Boulogne, Cluny Musée, La
Defense, the cemeteries, etc. Or how about
Monet’s gardens at Giverny? No time to do it
all, but we’ve accomplished a great deal in
a relaxed fashion and feel very comfortable
in Paris. |
|
MAY 20 |
Time to return
home…or perhaps you would like to stay on.
Our wonderful travel agent, Pam, will help
you with your flight arrangements. Perhaps
you would like to visit Chartres for a
couple of days or ? Patty has some
additional ideas should you like to discuss
them with her if you would like to stay on.
|
| |
By now, you have
decided that you will return again to
Paris
...charming and welcoming. |
